The appointment letters of John Durancé George, Dental Surgeon

Writer: Martineau

Date: 13th May

Address: Hornsey

Dear Sir,

        I beg to recommend
Maria Palmer of
Hornsey to your
notice, having known
her for many years
as a patient sufferer.
        I am yours truly,
Hornsey May 13th

There is no obvious candidate for ‘Martineau’. In the 1841 census, one Arthur Martineau, 'clergyman' aged 33 is living at Crouch Hall, Crouch End (HO 107/663/4/54/p.15). in the 1851 census, and no-one of that name living in Hornsey. There is a Maria Palmer, a coachman's wife aged 51, living in Hornsey in 1851 (HO 107/1702/9/p.11).
