Date: Monday 4th August 1890

Recipient: George Aldridge George

                           Monday. Aug. 4.

Dear Dr. George,
           By some means
I have got a sore throat & chest;
which makes me think it advisable
to stay indoors to-day, & postpone our
walk till another occasion. I am
much disappointed at this - but
must put up with it.
                                  yours truly
                                             T. Hardy

Notes:

Thomas Hardy lived at Max Gate, his house a mile to the east of Dorchester, the town in which George Aldridge George was a G.P. living in High West Street. George Aldridge George's name was used for Dr. Aldritch in the Mayor of Casterbridge.
