Albert Llewellyn Kidner (1871-1954)

Albert Llewellyn Kidner was born on 29th December 1871 in Llanfrechva Upper, a group of villages in Monmouthshire, Wales. His father was a tinplate worker. Albert emigrated to the US with his mother, Margaret, and two elder siblings, Lizzie and Tom, in 1874 on SS Glamorgan. His family first settled in New Kensington. He came to Pittsburgh several years later and for a while operated a cigar store at Hazelwood and Second Aves. In 1904 he opened a cigar store at Penn and Highland Aves., East Liberty, and ran it for 22 years before selling his interest to the Schulte Co, in 1926.

Herbert Miller Kidner (1901-1992)

Herbert Miller Kidner was born in New Kensington, Pa, in 1900, the son of Albert Llewellyn Kidner. He graduated with honor from Harvard University with a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1926. Heentered the Army Air Forces in 1941. His World War II assignments included a tour from 1942to 1944 as assistant commandant of the Judge Advocate General SChool in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After the war his posts included judge advocate of the US Fifth Air Force in Japan. From 1950 until retiring in 1956 he was judge advocate of the Air Force in Europe and was stationed in Germany. After retirement he practised law in the Washington area.

His military decorations included two awards of the Legion of Merit.

He died on July 18th, 1992.
